‘Het doel van het bestaan is het maken van een zelfportret – Philip Akkerman’ (The purpose of being is making a self-portrait – Philip Akkerman) comprises more than 35 years of self-portraits by artist Philip Akkerman and beautifully shows us the development in his work over the years. This wonderful large shaped book contains 205 works of art by Philip. A special, only rarely used, printing technique makes it almost tangible.<\/p>\r\n

In addition to the book, this collectors edition includes a signed silkscreen print, the composition and download called ‘Philip’ by Jameszoo and a paperback book with highlights from Philips’ diary notes. In the film ‘Old Master no secrets’\u00a0painter Philip Akkerman shares the technical knowledge he has acquired over the past forty years. The secret of the Old Masters, as Akkerman reveals in his studio, is that they divided the work\u00a0in\u00a0three steps:\u00a0drawing, grisaille\u00a0and\u00a0color.\u00a0By approaching each step individually, the Old Masters obtained maximum control over the result of the painting.
